Love of Learning. Independence. Community.

A 21st Century Education.

At the Montessori School of Peoria we provide an environment that stimulates a lifelong love of learning. Our graduates are enlightened, confident citizens of the world who make a positive impact on their communities and the future.

We believe children are born with the capacity for success. By treating them with great care and respect, and educating them in a spirit of peace and community, we acknowledge that children are, as Maria Montessori said, "a hope and a promise for mankind."

Our School

The Montessori School of Peoria is an independent, non-sectarian preschool and elementary school located in Peoria, IL.

The small preschool that started in 1977 with twelve Primary students has grown over three decades into an AMS-member school serving children ages 3 to 12. It still has its one-room schoolhouse feel, with multi-age classrooms full of children working independently or together in a spirit of community.

We are dedicated to self-discovery and respect for each child. Our students love coming to school. They think creatively. They are challenged academically while being given the tools to succeed now, throughout their development, and into the future.

Before elaborating any system of education, we must therefore create a favorable environment that will encourage the flowering of a child’s natural gifts. All that is needed is to remove the obstacles. And this should be the basis of, and point of departure for, all future education.
The first thing to be done, therefore, is to discover the true nature of a child and then assist him in his normal development.
— Dr. Maria Montessori
